Co-operative Education in Wales – Co-operatives and Mutuals Wales Round Tables
Education is at the heart of co-operative principles but in practice can be more like window dressing, caught between rhetoric and the bottom line.
Co-operatives and Mutuals Wales have been looking at how the co-operative movement can play a bigger role in education, not just the school curriculum but in higher education, adult education and informal education; and how better co-operative education can benefit the movement, engagement with members and the bottom line.
At an inaugural round table event last November, co-operators heard views from the Plunkett Foundation, Wales Co-operative Centre, ABCUL, the Co-operative College, the higher education sector and Communities First.
Delegates looked at how co-operative values and principles, could increase demand for co-operative education and the need to develop a strategic focus on co-operative educational development in Wales which encompassed formal and informal training for all ages.
