Co-Production in Community Settings: How it works. Session 1: Introduction to and how to do co-production

Overview

Strong Communities Healthier People (SCHeP) is a Cardiff University funded initiative which is experimenting with the use of co-production and action research for developing sustainable approaches to community engagement, development and consultation in Communities First areas.

The session will start with lunch from 12 and expected to finish at 2:30pm.

Session 1: Introduction to and how to do co-production

This session will consider co-production as a concept and what it might mean to different audiences. It explore and examine the steps required to establish a robust an effective approach to the process. It will consider some of the issues that often manifest themselves early on in establishing a co-productive initiative such as:

  • The need to engage all stakeholders in the full CoPro Process
  • Competing and clashing agendas of different stakeholders
  • Capacity building for stakeholder partners to enable meaningful engagement.
  • Managing the inherent tension in the overall process
  • How to formulate co-productive aims and objectives.
  • Developing participatory methodologies
  • Maintaining Participation and engagement

How to ensure people at different levels have the opportunity and feel empowered to participate in the co-productive approach.

Co-Production in community settings: how it works. Session 2: Experiments in co-production

Overview

Strong Communities Healthier People (SCHeP) is a Cardiff University funded initiative which is experimenting with the use of co-production and action research for developing sustainable approaches to community engagement, development and consultation in Communities First areas.

Session 2: Experiments in co-production

This session will reflect on the earlier session and use examples and discussions from participants in co-productive initiatives to explore how to:

  • Ensure quality and rigor in CoPro
  • Develop new models of CoPro to change the way social science research is framed and undertaken.
  • Provide concrete examples of co-productive research the challenges that they have posed and how these have been overcome
  • The different perspectives on the CoPro approach from both academic and other stakeholders
